A very special session! {Southern Maine Photographer}

My affiliation with NILMDTS (www.nilmdts.com) brought me to this family a year ago. It was a sad time as they were mourning the loss of their baby girl, but there was a need for my services and I always leave hoping the photographs I take will bring peace. This time it came full circle when they called me the day before induction with this beautiful little boy. I told her to call me when they were ready for my visit and yesterday I was the first visitor of the day!

Amy shared with me that the photographs I took of her daughter are treasures to her now. She also told me that she made little dresses for the hospital to give to other babies who pass too soon. She described them as little white, wedding/baptism style dresses and my heart just melted. Volunteers are needed in many ways for families who suffer this kind of loss. Dress makers are one of them!!

I am also on call for another family who suffered loss a year ago. I will be photographing the birth of their next child and I am beyond thrilled with that honor too!! I'll keep you all posted on that chapter!!

I'm feeling incredibly blessed for these relationships!

I asked dad to put his finger in his son's hand and when he did, the baby pulled it closer and seemed so content! Makes my heart smile!

Enjoy!

Isn't she lovely? {Southern Maine Photographer}

7 days old. She slept the entire session so I took advantage and attempted to swing her from a branch. I can't even wait to show the family!

This last one melts my heart....maybe a good one for the studio wall!
All the rain we got yesterday has made the ice rink a swimming pool. Jean's still trying to save the slow leak long enough for the weather to change back to January-like cold so the boys can enjoy more ice time.

Makenna is having some tummy troubles, wanting to stay home but decided to give it a try. She came home and laid right down to rest....I hate it when they are sick!

Branden discovered he's grown about an inch since he was last measured in November. YAY!

Cameron is doing really enjoying the challenges of travel hockey.

Marleigh is making me crazy with her poor housekeeping skills.

I'm really enjoying the stories of rescue in Haiti. I hear they found a 35 year old man still alive in the ruins today! Im incredibly touched by the generosity of my fellow Americans. My heart swells when I hear stories of the children in America reaching out to the children in Haiti. A 9-year-old boy on tonight's news stated he wanted to pack up his bedroom and send everything over to them. That's good people!!!!!

Enjoy!

Something DIFFERENT! {Southern Maine Photographer}

Do you think Hepburn when you see these?
This is Stephanie. She was part of a special "learning" weekend for me and wanted us to make her up like Audrey Hepburn. She brought the clothing and Jen and Melissa worked on her hair and makeup. I assisted in the shoot. Its awesome, isn't it!

As I grow up (notice I didn't say older), I desire to learn more and since January is a slower month for photography sessions, I find myself requiring more challenges. Thanks for your time this weekend Jennifer....you're an excellent teacher! Now, who wants to be next???

Thanks so much to the 8 ladies who ventured into my studio and allowed us to do "whatever" we wanted to them! We had "big hair" and "smokey eyes" I wish I could share more photos here but....they are photos of a "personal" nature and unless I get permission on specific photos, I'll keep them private!
Enjoy!

Good Morning!! {Southern Maine Photographer}

So....last weekend was awesome! Jean's got some awesome friends who came over and installed this new hardwood floor in my living room. I'm totally diggin' the look over that nasty carpet and I'm lovin' my house all over again. Thank you Pete and Marc, for helping Jean beautify my house!

I finally got the yellow on the walls in the kitchen. I love the color - its more a grey poupon mustard then a yellow mustard and I think it works well with the red cabinets!

Poor Marleigh, we wore her out! She got sick with a wicked cough and the nights were long with treatments with the nebulizer. She hates this!! When editing this photo for posting, Marleigh stood next to me and said "my hair looks cute in the night, huh? its curly!" She's vain and I'm sure its my fault.....maybe I'll attempt to fix it later.....I grew up with NO self confidence so I'm enjoying her pride in herself and as long as she doesn't appear snotty, self confidence is a great thing to have!

She has successfully passed her cold onto Jean and me now - it was bound to happen, she spent more time between us in our bed than she did in her own. She usually only comes into our bed about 15 minutes before the alarm sounds in the morning but when she's sick, she sneaks in in the middle of the night. About three days into her cold battling major congestion, while cuddling one morning, she said "I want my soft nose back" and I wanted nothing more for her! Admittedly, I did enjoy our conversations with her blocked nose...was cute to listen to!

This morning Cam took some time to show her how to shoot a bow & arrow on the wii. It was her first time ever playing and he was so patient with her. Happy Heart Moment!!
Today Jean and Cam hit the road for a three hour drive to a hockey tournament so I'm dedicating the day to working on a few projects.....once I get the girls tied up in their rooms. It seems they are fighting a lot more lately and I'm raising my voice more than I like so keeping us all busy is a good thing.

Be well my friends!

Surprise Proposal!! {Southern Maine Photographer}

I got a call in September asking me to secretly photograph a proposal for an out-of-state client! THRILLED....YOU BET!!!

I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to be sneaky and then decided that if I brought my family down there and was taking photos and picking shells from the shore, she'd never suspect us thinking we'd fit right in AND we did! There were a few women right next to us and they started chatting about how John was on his knee and they said to hubs "she (me) doesn't even see what's going on over there near the rocks". Jean responded to them telling them that he hired me to photograph this special event and she (the bride to be) had no idea I was doing such a thing. He gave them to her as her Christmas gift!

You have to know that John is a hero to most women I share this story with! I told him so, more than once, and I had to mention that now his Christmas gifts were going to have to be BIG to top this!

A few days after Christmas I got this email from John.

Dear Kelly
Thank you so much for helping me surprise becky. She was blown away by her gift and she called me a SOB, and thats how i know she was truly surprised. Becky was really happy with all the pictures. so thanks again
sincerely
John

I had to hold onto this story and these photos until after the holidays even though John and Becky are not locals, I just couldn't take the chance.

Enjoy!

Kelly Roy {Southern Maine Photographer}

Look at this super cute family! They came to me by referral from my gal pal Heather. Thanks so much Heather for your confidence in me! :)

Mom, Shanna, told me that her son (age 2.5) might be a bit of a challenge for me but I won him over and in no time we were pals. He's already got a passion for the drums (his uncle is a drummer) and he was all too happy to show me his talents (with straws)!

The whole reason for the get-together is this sweet new bundle. Loved the guitar on the hat!
Sorry I'm later posting these than I promised. I enjoyed those last days of vacation with my fam and then had a super busy day back yesterday. I'm working on a few special projects and find my days consumed with the prep work.
SALE!!
My favorite four-letter word!! I'm having a 30% off canvas prints sale in January! This is the biggest sale I've ever offered as I plan to get a few for my studio walls and would like to see more of these hanging in the walls of my client's homes. So if you have your eyes set on a canvas print or would like to see a few in person, please contact me! (Canvas is only offered in sizes 11x14 or larger).
Enjoy your day!!

Happy New Year! {Southern Maine Photographer}

So, how did you spend your first day of the new year? I had the honor of photographing this bundle of sweetness. My friends Nancy & Don welcomed their third child into this world yesterday! I don't care how many children you have, when you sit in that hospital room snuggling that sweet-smelling baby, you can't help but wish it was you who was taking him/her home! I'm so happy for them.

Isn't he just beautiful?
I also photographed a fourteen day old baby today but his photos will have to be shared tomorrow as I am continuing my family time and my kids need my attention now. They are completely exhausted from being up so late (they watched the ball drop but Jean and I fell asleep 15 minutes too early!) They were celebrating with Meemie....it's just standard procedure around here now!!
Goodnight.....sleep tight. Only two more days until the routines begin again!
Cheers!
